Will Ban Ki-Moon, the new United Nations secretary-general, be effective in this role?
Sebastian Mallaby doesn't seem to think so. Though I'm always suspect of any kind of analysis that is churned out of the halls of the thinkers at or who are connected with the Council on Foreign Relations, he does bring up some interesting points. Additionally, though I appreciate his brief analysis of Mr. Anan's poised approach during his tenure, I think we should resist the temptation to compare secretary-generals because each leadership style requires a unique approach to unique circumstances.
